WILD HERB WALK
COLLECT NATIVE PLANTS WITH A LOCAL HERBAL SPECIALIST
INFORMATIVE WILD HERB WALK WITH A LOCAL EXPERT
The use of wild herbs is deep-rooted in the Icelandic food culture. Still today herbal tea is popular throughout the country for its refreshment and health benefits. This 3 hours hands-on workshop takes you on a short nature walk in the vicinity of Reykjavik to discover wild herbs and plants in the company of a local expert in Icelandic herbs and organic cultivation. At the end of the walk there is time to prepare and enjoy a tea blend from the harvested herbs.
Throughout the centuries native herbs have been vital to survive many harsh periods during our history. Iceland moss, Arctic Thyme or Angelica species are well known for their health benefits, but edible and beneficial plants are all around us, although often they are overlooked as simply “weeds”.
Your guide in this tour is Jóhanna B. Magnúsdóttir, a qualified horticulturist with passion for wild plants and organic cultivation. She has a long experience in collecting wild plants for preparation of herbal tea. Besides, she cultivates in her garden edible and medicinal herbs, which can be found in dishes of a high-end restaurant in Reykjavik.
Jóhanna recognizes the Icelandic plants and their usages like no other and during a short walk outside her home, only 14 km (9 miles) away from Reykjavik city center, you will join her in collecting wild Icelandic herbs.
Jóhanna´s extensive knowledge will lead the way in a relaxing and informative walk that ends in her home garden where you can enjoy tea of your harvested herbs and a light lunch in an informal and cosy atmosphere.
