Driving out of Reykjavík we soon leave the main road to enter Kjós area by the back door. The area name, Kjós, means "in the shelter of mountains" and this shelter has become a favourite spot of locals taking time out. On our way we stop by a horticulture farmer and pioneer in local Farmers Market, where we witness the surprisingly bountiful harvest of crops in Iceland. While crisscrossing towards the coastline of Hvalfjörður we stretch our legs to better enjoy nature and along the way we enjoy bites of assorted artisan local food.

Sheep are aplenty in Iceland, by far outnumbering the local inhabitants. The first settlers of Iceland brought their most beloved sheep with them and through the ages men and sheep have shared a destiny. In Hvalfjörður we visit a sheep farm that has been in the same family for generations. We hear about the life on a farm and enjoy an evening meal of local food from the farm. Before the sun goes down we soak in the warm water of a primitive but beautiful nature pool with a stunning view towards Hvalfjörður bay. So don't forget your bathing suits.

Meeting point for the tour is at the pick up/drop off spot to the right hand side of Hallgrímskirkja. You will find a blue pole with a pink sign marked #8, Hallgrímskirkja. Please be there 10 minutes before tour departure.

What to wear: Please dress according to weather. Good hiking shoes.

We plan on visiting a natural bath, so please bring both towel and bathing suit.

Included: Guided tour through West Iceland, assorted local goodies and a farm visit with a fine dinner at the farm. Nature bath at the seashore.

The food: As meat, fish and dairy products are an important part of the Icelandic diet, these food types are prominent in the food offered on Crisscross tours.
