WHY CRISSCROSS?
IN THE SPIRIT OF SLOW TRAVEL
Crisscross-ing is an interesting way of moving; meandering through the countryside, off the beaten track. The shortest way is not always the most interesting one and we are ready to be led astray for a new discovery. We choose to let our taste buds lead the way through the wonders of nature and move in the spirit of slow travel; in small groups at an easy going pace.
Iceland offers a great variety of scenic impressions. Hidden in a remote valley is an impressive waterfall ready to be seen and heard. Further away hovers the ancient whiteness of a glacier, while underneath our feet the heat is building up in the lava chamber, waiting to surface one day. Calm creeks trickle through stony hills to join a cold and clear river rushing towards the sea. At the shore the footprints in the black sand are quickly washed away by salty waves.
Iceland is also a bountiful basket of delicious treats. With growing interest in local cuisine and innovative approach to culinary tradition, Icelandic farmers are producing high quality artisan food. On our tours we visit a farm, taste local delicacies and experience close contact with nature in all it’s glory.
As our tour plans follow the rhythm of nature and the life on a farm, there can be variations and small changes following the flow of the seasons. All our tours include a farm visit, scenic views and local food experience, but the plans are still open to fresh ideas and spontaneous decisions.
THE BENEFITS OF CRISSCROSSING
Have you ever taken a walk with a two year old child? If you do, you will soon realize that the real aim of “taking a walk” is not getting from A to B as quickly as possible, but to enjoy the many diversions along the way.
Crisscrossing is a lot like that. Driving short distances from place to place, we make frequent stops to visit farms, take short hikes or sample a local treat. This is a delightful way of travelling, giving space for curiosity and appreciation of all the small things that in the end make up a full life experience.
