DIP & DINE - KRAUMA
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE OF LOCAL FOOD AND CALMING GEOTHERMAL BATH
RELAXING IN A GEOTHERMAL POOL, STABLE VISIT, HOT-SPRING RYE BREAD TASTING, AND LOCAL MEAL
To immerse in warm water of an outdoor geothermal pool is simultaneously energizing and serene experience and there is nothing the local population appreciates more. Except perhaps to enjoy a good local meal. This tour offers both!
The calming geothermal baths at Krauma are situated at Europe´s most powerful hot spring, Deildartunguhver, only 97 km (60 miles) from Reykjavik. Located in the same geothermal active Reykholtsdalur valley, the horsefarm Sturlu Reykir has a private hot spring that generously offers the farmers free heating for their farm and an alternative fuel-conserving method for cooking. Here we taste the traditional baked hot spring rye bread (“hverabraud”); dense and sweet rye bread, always served with butter and sometimes with smoked arctic char or pickled herring.
At Krauma the natural pools contain clean geothermal water. Every second of the day 180 liter (50 US gallon) of boiling hot water emerge naturally from the ground, which is cooled down to comfortable temperatures by heat exchangers, allowing you to experience nature from its core.
You´ll have ample time to relax and rejuvenate in five warm soothing natural geothermal baths, all at slightly different temperatures, dip into a cold tub to get your blood circulation going, and feel the wellness benefits of a steam bath, a calming infrared sauna, and a relaxation room. Finally, you’ll enjoy a delightful meal from fresh local produce to complete your experience.
